Intensive Couple Therapy

Looking for a relationship transformation or shift? Exceptional couples therapy comes in many forms. You might not want the hourly, weekly kind. Why wait to feel connected? Increased momentum and real growth can occur over two days.

Intensives remove the distractions of typical, weekly therapy, allowing couples to focus and make accelerated progress in a short amount of time.

Intensive couples therapy is a focused, immersive experience enabling you and your partner to dive deeply into your relationship dynamics, identify core issues and patterns, and learn skills to make meaningful, lasting changes in your emotional connection and communication.

Over the course of two+ days, you will engage in therapy sessions covering what would typically take months of therapy.

Our therapist, Sara Kepros, tLMFT, leads these sessions using the model of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-backed approach aimed at helping couples create stronger emotional bonds.

She will help focus on helping you understand and restructure your emotional responses that lead to disconnection, hurt, and conflict. By identifying attachment needs, improving communication, and fostering vulnerability, you are able to break the negative cycles contributing to marital distress.

Testimonial from a client:

“If you’re feeling stuck in your relationship regarding how you and your spouse navigate difficult challenges and triggers, I highly recommend an EFT intensive with Sara. My husband and I were able to put terms and words to how we navigate conflict that has equipped us to more effectively slow down trigger moments, recognize when we prioritize protecting ourselves instead of communicating with intention, and create space for both of us to be vulnerable and open about what we are feeling. This process is an investment in your relationship, your health and your future.”

    • Attend the two-day therapy intensive. (See below for an example of the intensive schedule.)

    • After the intensive, it is recommended to continue seeing a couple’s therapist for follow-up work to maintain your progress and continue growing together. • A 50 % deposit is required to reserve your dates.

    • The remaining balance is due 14 days before your intensive

    • Insurance companies do not currently cover the costs of therapy intensives.

  • What will the consultation include?

Sara will ask you a few questions to get to know more about your relationship and what is bringing you to therapy, as well as answer questions you may have about the process. If we mutually agree that an intensive session is a good fit for your needs, we will move forward with scheduling.

What would make us not a good fit for an intensive?

If you are experiencing intimate partner violence, addiction, ongoing affairs, immediate acute affair recovery, or you and your partner are not on the same page about being in the relationship, an intensive would not be the best fit for you.

A good rule of thumb might be that if you and your partner could wait two months before attending an intensive and still have the same goals of wanting to work on your relationship, an intensive may be a good fit for you.

Will Sara be seeing other clients the day of our intensive?

No, the intensive days are solely devoted to your relationship. You will have your therapist’s undivided attention.

Do we have to live in Cedar Rapids?

No, you are welcome to travel from near and far! Our therapist, Sara, is happy to help you with ideas for accomodations.
